Singing in the bath...
My partner texted me today saying his day was "hellish". I texted back that he should hum. I'm sure that didn't go over well. I should just listen and empathize. Not my style. I'm a problem solver. So I looked into the logic behind my impulsive response and there is SO MUCH RESEARCH out there to confirm my reply. Humming and singing are mood elevators and have some really great health benefits. Then I thought of the time when Julia Roberts was singing in the bathtub in Pretty Woman. That was a classic Hollywood moment.
The tub is the BEST place to sing. The accoustics of the tub and the bathroom are the best amplifiers. When you relax, your brain releases dopamine which is such a sweet little self reward for relaxing. Singing, because you have to breathe a little deeper to really sing gives some of the same relaxation and mind-clearing benefits as meditation. This in turn improves your mood.
Another neat thing is that when you're singing, you really can't think about your problems --go ahead and try it - with an upbeat or happy song. What ever your reason is to sing in the tub, keep it up. It's good for you.
